WHAT TO EXPECT?

We know it can be a bit intimidating for some people when joining a new group.  If you're little late, that's fine, just join in with the warm-up (though if you are very late and the session has started, you may be asked to come to the next taster session).

On Saturdays, there is an advanced session on before the beginners class, so don't let that put you off.  Just watch what is going on and then join at 2:30.  Everyone is very friendly.

Your first class will be about 2 hours.  We'll start with a warm-up and then all newcomers will be placed with specifically trained instructors (black belts).

The training will consist of a mixture of self defence techniques from various attacks - defences from punches, grabs, strangles, kicks while on the ground.

We are aware that not everyone picks up new skills at the same rate.  We'll work with you as fast or as slowly as suits you.  You'll never be made do any sort of technique that you don't want to.

There is generally a group of anything from 4 to 10+ in any class and you will work with different people during  the class - great way to meet new people and have fun learning a new skill!

ANYTHING ELSE?

You'll need loose, relaxed clothing - a t-shirt, shorts/jogging bottoms.  We train barefoot, so you don't need trainers.  We'll ask you to remove jewellery/ watches etc  for your own safety.

There's shower and changing facilities in the venue if you want to use them.  If you want to stay around after class we go to a local pub (work hard, play hard).

Ishigaki does not normally accept students under the age of 18. If you are under 18, please contact us before coming to a new joiner session.

COST?

Free for newcomers. £12 if you've attended previously.
